  I own a Sleep number California king with Sleep IQ and adjustable base. After a little over one year of use the attachment hardware that connects the mattress to the base to the platform disconnected. The "hardware" is simply two 3 inch diameter plastic washers. The washers grabs hold of the weak fabric on the underside of the mattress cover and bolts it to the base. This is not a very substantial way to attach the mattress to the base. The fabric ripped and the mattresses slides around on the platform. I am NOT a mattress or bed design engineer, but I would expect at a minimum that the location where the bold and washer assemble are located would be reinforced with some kind of fabric that does not tear. In fairness to sleep number they have shipped me two new mattress covers, at no charge, and are sending out someone to install the covers. It is a simple repair but I would have to cut a hole in the new cover and pass the 1/4-20 machine scree through the new cover. I am concerned that if this repair rips again, I could be liable for the $1700+ for a replacement. I will post again after the Sleep Number techs repair the covers and let y'all know how it is going.
